Sit-ups have long been recognized as the way to improve your abdominal muscles, but there are 3 ways discussed here to get a six-pack without sit-ups.

While it would be nice to be able to simply zap away the fat in the mid-section, it requires effort to get rid of fat all over the body instead. Calculating your basic metabolic rate, or BMR, can help you change your diet and maximize the way you lose weight.

In order to calculate BMR, take your weight and multiply it by the following factor: for men, use 6.23 and for women, use 4.35. Next, multiply your weight by the following: men use 12.7 and women use 4.7. Next, multiply your age by the following: men use 6.8 and women use 4.7.

Men should add the first and second number and subtract the third number from that answer, then add 66 to get their BMR. Women, meanwhile, should add the first two numbers together, subtract the third number and then add 665. This answer is the BMR, and by subtracting 250, you can find the number of calories you should consume daily in order to lose weight. This can be achieved using the following methods.

Change Your Diet

A balanced diet goes a long way toward helping you tone your body, including those ab muscles you hope to show off during beach weather. Healthy fats, carbs at the right time and protein, as well as lots of water and fiber to help your body efficiently process nutrients and eliminate waste, will go a long way toward helping you achieve the muscle tone you want.

Eat Protein

Protein is helpful in creating new muscle. Therefore, eating more protein is a good idea to help your body gain more from the workouts you do choose to accomplish. Eating lean protein will be helpful to the body for processing while not adding significant amounts of fat to be digested.

Eat Carbs After Working Out

Avoiding carbs is not the benefit that most diet advocates say it is. Instead, eat moderate amounts of carbohydrates after a workout, as that is the time they have the lowest rate of being turned into fat. Oatmeal, sweet potatoes and brown rice are healthy carbs to consume. Also, eating a meal with carbs and one to two cups of vegetables helps your body get sufficient nutrients, including antioxidants and fiber so the body can complete processes efficiently.
