No More Fillings As Dentists Reveal New Tooth Decay Treatment

A group of medical experts in London have developed pain-free filling. This filling will allow teeth to repair themselves without drilling or injections. This is absolutely amazing. The scientists have developed a new pain-free filling that allows cavities to be repaired without drilling or injections.

This, teeth-repairing method is developed by group of scientists at King’s College – London. This technique will “encourage” teeth to repair themselves. Well, we all know that the tooth decay is normally removed by drilling, and the cavity is filled with a material – amalgam or composite resin. This tooth-rebuilding technique is called Electrically Accelerated and Enhanced Remineralization– EAER. This treatment accelerates the natural movement of calcium and phosphate minerals into the damage tooth.

This is a two-step process. First, this process prepares the damaged area of enamel, and then it uses a tiny electric current to push minerals into the repair site. The medical experts say that this treatment could be available in just 3 years. One of the scientists at the King’s College London’s Dental Institute – KCLDI, Professor Nigel Pitts, claims that the way we treat teeth today is not the best way. He is trying to say that when we repair a tooth by putting a filling, the tooth will enter a cycle of drilling and refilling. And the bad thing about this cycle is that it always fails.

Professor Nigel Pitts says that their device is good for the patient and much better for their teeth health, and it’s expected to be at least as cost-effective as current dental treatments. Professor Nigel also says that this treatment can also be used to whiten teeth as well. The famous spinout company – Reminova, has been set up to commercialize the research. This company is based in Perth, Scotland and it’s in the process of seeking private investment to develop EAER. Well, this company is the first to emerge from the King’s College London Dental Innovation and Translation Centre, which was set up in January to take novel technologies and turn them into new products and practices.

You should also know that King’s College is a participant in Med City. Med City is a project launched by the London mayor, Boris Johnson, to promote entrepreneurship in the London-Oxford-Cambridge life sciences golden triangle. Kit Malthouse is the chairman of Med City. He says that it’s brilliant to see the really creative research taking place at King’s. He also said that he hopes that this project will be turned into a new device very soon, because it has the potential to make a real difference to the dental health and patient experience of people with tooth decay.
