Rosemary is my favorite herb. It grows year round as an evergreen where I live and is an excellent multi-purpose herb. It’s been used in traditional medicine for generations. Now, a new study has some interesting news for the plant.
Science has found that rosemary contains carnosic acid which fights free radical damage in the brain. It also helps the natural acids in the body protect DNA from free radical damage. And the news gets even better.
According to the study published in Therapeutic Advances in Psychopharmacology, the chemical compound 1,8-cineole found in rosemary is responsible for improved memory function.
Their findings even indicated that rosemary improves memory function by 75% just from smelling it! I guess Shakespeare had it right when, in Hamlet, Ophelia declares: ‘There’s rosemary, that’s for remembrance: pray, love, remember.’
I’m going to have to plant some rosemary in my yard now.
