Coconut oil isn’t just for cooking, it’s uses are numerous and can extend to being a form of natural medicine, be used for natural beauty treatments and so much more.
1. Nail and Cuticle Treatment
Coconut oil is an effective method for keeping cuticles healthy. It has an anti-fungal property that helps to fight nail fungus and keep your nails from becoming brittle. Take small quantity of organic coconut oil and apply to your nails and cuticles. Massage it gently for few minutes and then let it dry naturally.
2. Skin Moisturizer
Coconut oil is a nourishing, allergen-free moisturizer for dry, itchy and cracked skin. Using coconut oil on your skin will prevent and visibly reduce stretch marks as well as decrease the appearance of cellulite.
3. Body scrub
Coconut oil is a mild natural exfoliator. It exfoliates the outer layer of dead skin cells and penetrates to the deeper layers of the skin to strengthen the underlying connective tissues. Simply combine half a cup of coconut oil with a 3/4 cup of coarse salt or sugar to make a simple exfoliating body scrub. The scrub does a great job at exfoliating and the coconut oil leaves skin super-hydrated and soft.
4. Natural Deodorant
Many commercial deodorants are typically made with aluminum and other potentially harmful substances. Coconut oil is a safe, natural alternative for keeping the stink away without chemicals. It contains lauric acid, which kills odor-causing bacteria. Combine half a cup of coconut oil, half a cup of baking soda and 4-5 drops of essential oils for aroma. This will become a thick paste like a glue. Put the mixture in the fridge for an hour to solidify. Keep this homemade deodorant cold and dry and apply it daily just under the armpit.
5. Chapped lips
Due to it’s moisturizing properties, coconut oil makes a great natural lip balm. Treat Chapped lips by dabbing a little coconut oil on your lips with your finger. It will hydrate your lips and leave it super soft.
6. Reduce wrinkles
Coconut oil boosts collagen production, so it strengthens underlying tissues and helps prevent the appearance of wrinkles and keep skin looking smooth. Rub it into lines, creases, and wrinkles to rehydrate skin and soften wrinkles away.
7. Oil pulling
Oil pulling is an integral part of Ayurvedic medicine which is used to whiten the teeth, prevent plaque, gingivitis, and banish bad breath. Put about a tablespoon of coconut oil in your mouth. Swish the oil around your mouth for about 15-20 minutes. Spit out the oil, then brush your teeth.
8. Hair Conditioner
Coconut oil has been in use as hair oil for thousands of years for conditioning, dandruff, lice protection and split ends. Coconut oil penetrates hair more deeply and faster than other conditioners. It can help strengthen hair while helping hair to retain moisture. Massage it in and rinse it out after ten minutes.
