Curcumin is a diarylheaptanoid and the main curcuminoid of turmeric, with desmethoxycurcumin and bis-desmethoxycurcumin being the other two. They are responsible for the golden color of turmeric.
Taking 12 gr. of the spice for 3 months are generally considered safe, but curcumin is poorly absorbed and its bioavailability is low. Currently, there are many studies which are examining curcumin’s effects on diseases such as multiple myeloma, pancreatic cancer, myelodysplastic syndrome, colon cancer, psoriasis, arthritis, major depressive disorder and Alzheimer’s disease.

“The health benefits are many, many. For example, for those who suffer from rheumatoid arthritis, those who have painful swelling in the knees, or those who suffer from diabetes turmeric is a great way to suppress the inflammation,” she says, and continues, “We have closely to 300 publications (that cite turmeric) for its anti-cancer effects. Many diseases, such as colon cancer and other types of cancer, are being traced to inflammation.” This shows that curcumin regulates inflammation and cures some types of cancer.
According to Natural News, curcumin targets the cancer cells only and alters their DNA, effectively killing them. However, not all sources of curcumin are equal – Dr. Sukumar says that you can get the most out of it if you spice your dishes with it. “The problem with the pill is that it is very insoluble in water.”, she points out. “The better way to take it is to use it in your cooking freely. If you have any sauté, just sprinkle it in. The moment you heat oil and add turmeric to it, it becomes completely bioavailable to you.”
Thankfully, turmeric is versatile. It has a mellow, smoky flavor despite the golden color and tastes great with sautéed vegetables. If you like meat, you can make it healthier by adding turmeric on it. Of course, you can use like curry too.

2 cups of sprouted lentils
1 sweet potato (cooked)
2 tablespoons of butter or coconut oil

Before starting, sprout the lentils 3 days earlier. Cook the sweet potato and mash it, then combine the ingredients in a food blender and mix well. Serve with some cheese, avocado or your favorite topping.
Anti-inflammatory frozen watermelon pineapple smoothie recipe (1-2 servings)
Turmeric is usually associated with savory dishes, with hardly anyone adding it to sweet dishes, but you can safely add it to fruit smoothies. A ripe red watermelon can protect your body against chronic inflammation, while pineapple contains bromelain, an enzyme that improves digestion by breaking down protein. It is also a powerful anti-inflammatory agent that can prevent chronic inflammation.
2 cups of frozen watermelon (cut into 2-inch chunks)
1 cup of frozen organic pineapple (cut into 2-inch chunks)
1 peeled orange
Half a cup of organic coconut milk
1 ½ cups of organic coconut water
Half a teaspoon of organic turmeric powder
2-3 drops of liquid stevia or 1 tablespoon of organic honey
Put all the ingredients in a blender and mix on high speed until the mixture is smooth. Pour the smoothie in glasses and enjoy it!
