Sciatic pain or sciatica is a leg pain, and probably numbness, tingling or weakness that begins in the lower back and then travels through your buttock and down your large sciatic nerve located in the back of the leg.
There are a few factors that provide for this condition, including lumbar disk hernia, a clenched nerve in your lower back, mechanical stress that provokes the inner portion of your disk to bulge through your outer ring. This herniated or ruptured disk, usually appears on the weakest points of your disk, and that is where the nerve leaves your spinal cord.
How to treat the sciatica
1. Spinal manipulation and chiropractic care
Stimulating motion is a great way to remove the sciatic pain. Using Electrotherapy, ultrasound, joint mobilization, and different exercises or soft tissue therapies, physiotherapists and chiropractors can do this successfully after calculating your condition. It is strongly recommended to discuss the treatment with your chiropractors or physiotherapists for best results.
This is one great nonsurgical method to treat the sciatica. This Chinese treatment relieves the pain because the tiny needles are positioned in the meridian channels and in this way it triggers the micro-trauma to the muscles, and this leads to an increased endorphin release that soothes your nerves.
3. Ice/Heat therapy
Alternating ice or heat packs can noticeably relieve the pain and the inflammation. The heat relaxes the muscles, while the ice reduces the inflammation and swelling.
4. McKenzie exercises
Although these kind of exercises are strongly recommended by the health experts, you should consult a chiropractor or physiotherapist before doing them.
5. Spinal decompression traction therapy
This treatment is recommended just in cases where the pain lasts for a longer period. The kind of therapy involves stretching your spine with a traction table or some similar device, with the target to relieve the back pain or the leg pain.
