Do you often feel sluggish, bloated, irritable, or just generally unwell? Then it might be a good idea to consider detoxing your body with the Earth’s oldest natural supplement- bentonite clay.
Often we will see animals pawing at the ground and eating small mouthfuls of dirt. However this isn’t dirt, it’s clay. They instinctively know that ingesting clays will help support their digestion as well as rid their bodies of toxins and parasites. There may have even been a time in our history where we were instinctively driven to eat clay, but today that behavior has largely been buried.
Despite evolving away from our ancestral instincts, the benefits of bentonite clay still remain and are no less potent. In fact, clay therapies are still used around the world in many different ways, in many various cultures.
How does it work?
Clays are a very unique material, as many give off a negative electrical charge when exposed to water. It’s this negative charge which helps to pull heavy metals such as lead and mercury as well as radioactive substances and toxins from the body. Because clay pulls water and heavy metals from the digestive tract, it’s important to drink plenty of water as constipation can occur.
What are the benefits?
Bentonite clay helps to support a wide variety of systems in the body, and clay users can see benefits such as:
- Supports ideal digestive flora.
- Aids in the absorption of essential nutrients.
- Boosts immune system.
- Provides minerals which are often lacking from the diet.
- Helps cleanse the skin, colon, and liver.
- Helps reduce acne.
Where do I start?
It all begins with the kind of clay you chose. Be sure to research the company you buy from, and be sure they harvested the clay without the use of metal. Why? Because when the clay is wet it can pull ions from the metal touching it. This won’t harm you in any way, but it will cause the clay to lose some of its strength, and thus reduce detoxifying power.
Now, you can take anywhere between 1 tsp. to 1 TBSP. of clay in 8oz. of water a day. It is recommended that beginners go the 1 tsp. a day rout, stopping after three days of treatment to let your body deal with the detox symptoms which can include slight headache, dizziness, drowsiness, body aches, sore throat, unusual extreme energy, etc. Not everyone will experience detox symptoms the same, and some may not experience them at all. However, if you do, take a break from your treatment. After two days, you can begin again and repeat the process. For a total cleanse, take 1 tsp. every day for six weeks. You can also take the clay as needed when you feel sluggish, are constipated, or feel as if you are getting sick.
Also, be sure to never mix your clay using a metal spoon, or within a metal drinking container. As we have stated before, the clay can lose potency if it comes into contact with any kind of metal.
Bentonite clay is excellent for ridding the body of toxins both internally as well as externally. It can be used in a variety of DIY recipes such as:
- Homemade Toothpaste
- DIY Deodorant
- Detox Baths
- Foot Soaks
- Face Masks
- Soothing Balm for Bug Bites
