*Excessive sodium intake*
Consuming foods rich in salt and not drinking enough water can make the body to use its reserves and that leads to edema. The water makes the cells to expand to twenty times. It was shown in a study that taking 200 milligrams of magnesium on a daily basis can reduce water retention in women who experience premenstrual symptoms. Foods that are rich in magnesium are peas, whole grains, nuts, avocados, dark green vegetables, yogurt, dried fruits, dark chocolate and spinach.
